Mawlynnong - The cleanest village in Asia

Do you know which is the cleanest village of Asia? Can you imagine Indian village holding this title? One of the Indian village known as Mawlynnong holds this glorious title. This magical paradise is at a distance of 100 km from Shillong, Meghalaya, India.

Mawlynnong won the title of the cleanest village of Asia in the year 2003, it is cleaner than most of the European cities. The beautiful motherland of Meghalaya along with the cleanliness makes it a perfect travel destination.

The people of Mawlynnong clean up the streets early in the morning.It is an age-old tradition for the Khasis people to maintain their homeland and their homes neat and clean. The tourists are charged with some amount of money for the maintenance of the village.

The villagers have built a bamboo treehouse at a height of  85 feet. As the village is close to India-Bangladesh brder, you can see the Bangla tertiory. The tree house provides the breathtaking views of the beautiful dense Meghalaya forest. The tree house is also known as Sky view point.

Visit the root bridges present in the area, it is a used cross the various streams. It is an ancient art, Roots of the rubber tree are guided using hollowed out betel nut tree trunks .The roots grow straight out. When they reach the other side of the river, they're allowed to take root in the soil.

Finally, I conclude by saying that Mawlynnong is a must visit place in India and also a good example for other Indian cities and villages.

How to get to Mawlynnong?

You can reach here either by a air or road. The nearest airport is at Shillong which is located at a distance of 100 km.

You can also travel to Guwahati via flight, it is better connected with other Indian Metros. The Guwahati is at a distance of 180 km from Mawlynnong.
